Stephens Sidewinder pt 4 - Ready for Winter!

At last! Stephens front wheels have arrived and what a difference they make!
Also a pair of heat exchangers have been fitted. Also you'll note it has gained a new hood courtesy of Whiffs Trimming, ready for fun in any weather now!

Marks Manx II

Mark kindly sent me some photos of his recently completed ECM Manx II, Mark started off with a GP lwb buggy shortened to fit a shortened pan. After a nut and bolt restoration, the only thing used from the original build was the chassis, I'm sure you'll all agree he has built a fabulous buggy! Enjoy the photos!

Cool stance, rolling along on chrome modulars.. Red flake body from ECM

Brand new 1776cc motor, fully chromed and detailed with colour matching red accessories with the fumes being spat out through a pair of chrome cannons

Stephens Sidewinder pt 3 - On the Road!

Stephen sent me more photos of his Sidewinder, he got it on the road in June and has now covered over 1200 miles, and yes.. he is still waiting for his front wheels to be delivered!

Ryans Sidewinder

Next up is Ryans Sidewinder, based on a '73 chassis. Ryan has recently finished it and got it through the MOT and is now all legal and on the road!

Slot mags in Chevy pattern front and rear, 7x14 up front and 8.5x15 on the rear, disc brakes up front with drums on the back.

Ryans Sidewinder is pushed along by a 1641cc motor with dual 36 dells, Engle 100 cam and ported and polished heads, coupled up to a Rancho pro-street box

The interior features fibreglass buckets, grant wheel and a nice looking Berg signature series shifter. The chassis was superbly restored featuring Irs, take a look at the links to Ryans buggy on the other side of the page to see a few shots of his chassis build.

Deva Dubs & Rods

The sun was out and cracking the flags and out came the buggies!
After a fab cruise down to Shrewsbury I pulled into the showground and was greeted by buggies! woot!

The photos I took are below.. and once again I slacked and only used my phone to take them.. anyways enjoy!

Mark with his sweet Volksrod, well done mate!

(I think I have worked out Marks secret of keeping his buggy so shiney.. if you look closely at the above photo... he uses his socks to clean it!)

On the subject of Mark, he was trying out his new camera, he sent me a couple of his photos, a craking one of my buggy and an arty one!

Was a great day down at Shrewsbury, roll on the next show!

Stephens Sidewinder

Back in early January Stephen sent me a couple of photos of buggy build, he'd just got the Beetle and separated it from the chassis, well, he has been busy..

Chassis Back from Mark at Flatlands and all assembled, to quote Stephen "it's too good to cover up!" and I agree!

A purple flaked Sidewinder shell from Mel at Manxbuggies.co.uk

A close up of the shell which looks cool in the photo, I imagine it would be amazing to see in the sunlight

Rear rims and rubber delivered, fronts will be on there way soon!

Mini Manx Build continues..

Angelo sent me a few pics of His Mini Manx project
The sit on lawn mower has been collected and stripped down to the bare essentials

The shell is seen here sitting on the chassis, now he can get and idea of what he has to cut etc.

The wheels look perfect sizewise I'm sure you'll agree, Angelo informs me the next job is to shorten the chassis a touch and to get the shell sitting a little lower

You can see the customer trying out his new buggy, I think he is happy with the progress so far =)

All-Types Show

A few buggies braved the unpredictable weather and made it into sunny North Wales for this years All-Types Show http://www.alltypes.co.uk/

The weather held with some sunny spells, it was a good well organised show, anyways enough of my babbling, take a look at the pics..

Caught up with a few of the guys at the show, Marks Volksrod gleeming as usual and Shilly had his new Turbo Thomas stainless exhaust fitted

I Also found these two dodgy looking geezers sitting in my buggy! (Shilly and ManxDave)

I had a good time at the show and congratulations to Angelo, he won a top 5 best aircooled at the show with his Fastback

Type 3 man converted?

Volksworld show has come and gone and I have slacked with posting my photos from there..

The Buggy Build off between Billybob and Flatlands..

Billybobs (above) got crowned the as the winner, voted for by the visitors who where at the show

Flatlands Engineerings entry, the quality of the two entries was fantastic, the voting must have been very close

Darrens Invader

Next up is Darrens Invader Buggy, based around a 1956 chassis

Over the last 12 months Darren has carried out a full nut and bolt restoration on his invader, sandblasted chassis has been colour coded to match the shell

Colour coded and detailed 1300cc lump pushes the Invader along

Chrome modulars all around with 195/60/14 and 255/70/15 rubber

It's great to see such a rare buggy totally restored, great job! Many thanks for sending me your photos!

Tonys Hustler GT SWB

Next up is Tonys Hustler GT SWB Buggy, nicknamed 'Berky' Based around a 1970 shortened chassis

Running on chrome modulars wrapped in some fat rubber, stopping power is provided with stock VW drums on each corner

A nicely detailed 1300cc motor oozing with chrome goodies powers Tonys buggy while the exhaust gasses are spat out via a pair of chrome cannons

Xenon headlamps up front with angel eyes on headlamps and spots, Tony has boxed in the rear seating area topped off with a classic chrome roof rack. Customized dash and speedo together with a pair of high back seats finish off the interior nicely

300w amp powering a six speaker setup all ran off an ipod provides the tunes for the summer. An LED whip aerial that flashed red, white and blue mounted on the rear

Kris' GP LDV Buggy

Next up is Kris' GP LDV long wheelbase buggy, Kris aquired the buggy last August, since owning it Kris and his 16 year old son have repainted it in a subtle shade of orange, made a one off custom exhaust and dash

Running slotmags all around and powered by a 1300cc twinport lump

Kris debuted his buggy at a local show to him at Southwell, nice to see another couple of buggies turning out in the line up

Next up is James' mk 1 GP Buggy, he has owned this for eleven years

James informs me that his buggy has recently just been treated to a complete strip down and rebuild of the running gear, the electrics and a respray

Sitting pretty on slotmags front and rear

Side pods now glassed onto the main tub, and fresh paint in metallic azure blue with House of Kolor Prismatic Flakes over the top, this combination gives an awesome effect out in the sunshine

Malcolms FibreFab LWB Rat

Malcolm kindly sent me some photos of his ongoing buggy project, it's a FibreFab LWB Rat on a 1966 chassis

Runs along on 14" steel slots wrapped in 195/70/R14 up front and 15" with 225/70/R15 on the rear

Recent mods include an alternator conversion, new dizzy, dual cannon exhaust and some dress up goodies, now it goes and sounds as good as it looks!

Looking forward to getting more updates from Malcolm, thanks again for the photos and keep up the good work!

Buggy Building's Easy!

Marcs GP LWB Buggy

Marc and Karens pride and joy is up next..
Purchased back in November 2000 as a 'cheer me up' after being made redundant

A GP LWB shell in need of some TLC but was basically sound.
Originally gel coat white but now a black base coat was layed down with purple pearl over the top and finished off with a touch of blue indigo metal flake in the lacquer

The motor is a 1641cc, ignition is sorted by a 009 dizzy and blue coil, fuelling is supplied via a pair of Weber 34ict carbs

The interior has been totally recovered in black vinyl and finished off with black carpet. Wheel and Wink 5 panel mirror courtesy of German Car Company before the closed

ATS Alloys also from GCC, you all have to admit they finish Marcs buggy off a treat

Marc also got many parts custom made by a local engineering company, like these sweet looking pedal covers, also fuel filler amongst many other stainless and alloy parts

Since completing his buggy Marc had added dropped spindles up front and coil overs on the rear giving a cool stance to his buggy, the photo above showing his suspension mods at the Battlesbridge Show

Lazarus' SWB Rat

Next buggy up is Lazarus' SWB Rat, Based on a '67 chassis

Pushed along with a 1600cc lump and fueled by twin Kadrons

8.5" banded wide 5 steels, the interior features an 11" Grant wheel and a pair of low back buckets

Lazarus also sent me a few photos he took of a tasty LDV at Holton Classic VW and Porsche show

Keiths KK Kango Buggy

Kingfisher Kustoms Kango buggy built by Keith back in 1986 and has covered 146,000 miles to date.

Running a 2.0L Fiat twin cam motor coupled to a 1500cc VW box

Too many modifications to list, parts used to make Keiths buggy came from Beetle, Fiat, Subaru, Citroen, Hillman, jaguar, BL Mini, Land Rover, Datsun, Peugeot, Renault, Lancia, Vauxhall and Ford

Keith has used the full KK kit apart from the perspex headlight covers

Great looking buggy with excellent build quality to have lasted since '86 and to have covered that many miles, thanks again for the photos etc.

Dave H's GP11 Super Buggy

Next up is Dave H's Original 70's mk11 GP Super buggy. Restored by Dave and his son Sam and making its debut at Volksfest Wales back in August

Running on 14" Proline Modular steelies wrapped in 165/55/14 and 215/85/14 rubber. Stopping power is provided by stock drums with all hard and flexi lines replaced during chassis rebuild

1600cc twin port motor, 009 dizzy, chrome power pipes, chrome shrouds with a colour coded fan housing all topped off with a pair of twin 40mm Kadrons for that extra bit of va va voom!

6 point roll cage that we made ourselves and powder-coated white, Mutant CD and MP3 Player with speakers hidden in floor of back seats

Corbeau bucket seats with 3 point harnesses that can detach and become lap belts only, Mountney steering wheel, Home made rear bench seat which was re-upholstered in red velour and red carpet throughout.

A Super shiney buggy! I am becoming fond of lwb buggies, thanks for the photos and spec Dave, great looking buggy!

Ians Volksworld Magazine Photo Shoot

VW Action

Ollies GP mk 1 SWB Buggy

Next up is Ollies GP mark 1, a full rebuild taking 10 months to complete and the majority of the work carried out by himself..

Lots of fiberglass work including widening the bonnet to take a wider Manx style windscreen and a full respray in a luscious looking purple flake

Wheel wise the buggy is rolling along on chrome jackman rims, 8" rears with 275/50/15 cooper rubber and 6" fronts with 205/50/15 also wrapped in Cooper rubber

A custom interior featuring fully trimmed fiberglass buggy buckets and home made side panels to match the rest of the interior, topped off with a Grant wheel and a custom made roll bar

A fantastic job I'm sure you'll all agree, fab buggy!

Marks Berrien Cruiser Rail

Next up is Marks Berrien Cruiser Rail, with a build time of 15 months, it's currently tearing up the roads of Hampshire (weather permitting)

Full Porsche 944 rear axle with the torsion bars removed and Fox 450mm remote resovoir shocks

The rail is sitting on 17" Porsche Super Cup alloys with 265/65/17 general grabber up front and a pair of massive 315/70/17 on the rear

Running a stock 1300cc motor and a bus 1600cc box (for the moment)

Winter plans include fitting a V8 powerplant, Sweet looking rail, nice work Mark

Lees SWB Manx in Sea Spray metal flake

Torque Thrust look the business, complimented with Cooper Cobra rubber

A nicely detailed 1670cc motor fed by twin 32s push this buggy along

It has a custom made hoop linked to another under the dash which are tied together by hidden bars that run behind the side pods. This system stiffens the whole car and helps illiminate scuttle shake. The steering column is also mounted to it.

Grahams latest buggy based around a new Sidewinder shell courtesy once again from Mel Hubbards Manxbuggies.

A custom 2 tone fade paint job laid on by grahams own spraygun skills!

Traditional slotmags front and massive 10" wide rear wrapped in Cooper Cobra rubber

The project was started last December and bang on target it drove onto the showground at the Deva show, all work done by himself and his good friend Porsche Neil, Graham tells me also loads of info from the beach buggy god himself.. Manx Dave. Also I have heard a rumour about another plot involving a Sidewinder and Graham.. watch this space =)

Sitting on Race line wheels, the rears 10X15 fitted with 33x12.5x15 and the fronts 7x15 fitted 30x8.5x15

Running a 1641cc lump featuring engle 125 cam, 1.1:1 scat procomp rockers, 044 super mag heads, twin weber 44 idfs, scat volksracer crank 69mm, scat H beam rods, bug pack headers

Stock clutch and braking system, also a watertight hood (upto 65mph) also from JAS

Makes a nice change to see a buggy in this country running on such fat rubber, fantastic looking buggy Nigel!

Mr. Doons (Chad) own Doon SWB

Mr. Doon (Chad) himself sent me details of his own buggy, 2nd ever shell produced by http://www.doon.co.uk/ designed by himself and good friend Rich Crees.

Built from the ground up, every last nut and bolt has been renewed, Running on Porsche Boxster alloys 9x17 rear and 7x17 fronts, keeping with the Porsche theme Porsche 944 turbo aluminium rear IRS arms and rear disc brakes

The power is provided by a 1968cc Laurie Pettitt engine with twin 40 dellorttos, C35 SCAT cam, Waterboxer 2 litre counterweighted crank, external oil filtration and cooling, BAS stainless exhaust

The interior features Custom made gauges from Green Gauges, CSP close ratio shifter, aluminium checkerplate floor halves and corbeau aftermarket seats

Superb spec and the attention to detail makes this one of the best buggies I have seen

Peters mk1 GP LWB

Next up is Peters freshly built buggy using an original 70's LWB GP shell

The fully restored shell is bolted to a '75 chassis with an adjustable front beam, new brake lines throughout and painted in battleship grey

Weller 8 spokes at each corner, 6" on the fronts and 7" on the rear wrapped in 195/55/15 and 9.50/60/15 rubber

A stock 1300cc with 009, tin painted in metal flake grey to match the body stripe, dual cannons and some nice shiney dress up pieces

Sweet looking buggy, tough looking stance, fingers crossed for a hot and sunny English summer!

Marks "Rampant Touch" Volksrod

Next up is Marks Volksrod Buggy, Colour is a cool shade of VW Arctic White. Brought back to its former glory over the past 3 years including a full body off rebuild

6x15 and 10x15 chrome wheels, recently recovered Corbeau Classic seats, custom fabricated twin hoop out of stainless steel

The name "RAMPANT TOUCH" is created out of using modern VW Badge letters and it was given the name by my girlfriend Kerry

Fully chromed and blinged 1600cc twinport and Consul Capri 315 rear lights

Fabulous work by Mark and the end result is one cool buggy!

Robbs Invader

Here is Robbs 1955 floor paned buggy, 9 months in the making, everything has been replaced apart from the chassis spine

The body is believed to be from 1976, one of the first to be made in the UK

1641cc motor fuelled by a single dual 40 carb. The twin teardrop rear lights look great

Just a trip to the MOT station then Robbs buggy is set for the summer

Once again a great looking buggy!

Martins FibreFab SWB Rat

Next up is Martins FF SWB Rat buggy, running on Revolution 5 spokes with 265/50/15 on the rear and 215/60/15 on the front, disks on the front and uprated cylinders on the rear

A nicely detailed 1641cc motor with twin weber 40idfs

Future plans are to include a full respray and a fuel injection system.

Fitted with an East Coast Manx opening bonnet

Colins GT LWB Buggy

Here we have Colins GT LWB buggy still under construction..

Fully rebuilt chassis, running on wide 5 drums and BRMs

Featuring a brand new GT Mouldings black body

Engine is out at the moment undergoing a overhaul and a freshen up.

Next buggy installment is Andrews '71 based blue/grey metal flake buggy running in Porsche Cookie Cutters (a wise choice) =)

Ians '68 SWB Prowler

I`ve asked a few buggy owners to send me some details of their buggies,
Here is the first one I got sent, a fab looking SWB Prowler, I spotted this at the Volksworld '07 show...

1776cc motor with twin 44's built by Dan Simpson, German BAS exhaust system and BMD Pulley system.

Fully polished Centerline AutoDrags with 195/60/15 front and 275/60/15 rear rubber.

All together one cool looking buggy!

About time I started my own blog.
